This is for Indians who invest in shares etc. Where have you chosen to open your Demat account and why?

No online stock broker is without problems. ICICI is better than the rest. HDFC is good but very limited features. So prefer ICICI.

First year there are no charges for ICICI direct.com.From next year they charge something like 700 Rs.(These are the charges in 2002.I dont know what are the charges now).
Considering most of the people have ICICI bank account, opening demat with ICICIdirect is best option since we can link our bank account and demat account. We can quick transfer the amount from bank account to demat account with just one click.
And if you have ICICI credit card then you can link that account also.

ICICI has the highest brokerage charges.

HDFC has the cheapest( 0.05%) but no option for IPO and mutual funds.Trading acct opening chares around 750.Demat acct free for 1st yr but Rs.500/ anually.

Kotak street (0.057%) has option for IPO/mutual funds. I have acct with them. Their application is really complicated to use. To perform simple queries one has to navigate lot of links.

I had 5paisa some 6 months ago. They did have online IPO at that time. Not sure.

I will write more on Monday.
