What I actually meant was, "what does your desktop usually look like during the day? (dirty laundry and all)".
Here's mine (click for full size):
I typically keep 3 xterm windows running.
The leftmost one (transparent with green text) usually has two tabs going.
One tails the log for the app I work on and the other watches the packets using tcpflow.
The second xterm window is for editing JSPs (I edit with VIM).
The third is for editing the JavaBeans and
Servlets.
As you can see I use Firefox but in order to make sure MSIE users are seeing something close to what FF shows me, I use rdesktop to get to a winders box in the office.
In FF, I keep links to J2SE 1.4,
J2EE 1.4, and JDK1.5 APIs in the personal folder. The PDFs for the Servlet,
JSP, and JSTL specs are on the desktop all the way to the right.
I have NetBeans and Eclipse on the machine but still haven't been able to make the switch to being an
IDE developer.
The screens for my music software usually live on another desktop (you can have multiple desktops running with Gnome or KDE) so they don't get in the way when I'm working.
But since everyone's showing just the wallpaper, mine is a copy of the noaa nautical chart of Boston Harbor.
