J2EE to SAP

I am currently a Solution Architect with 11 years of experience in IT industry. Primarily I have been working in J2EE area with IBM/BEA products. I have one year of Architecture Consulting experience i.e. using frameworks such as TOGAF/IAF etc. I am Sun Cerfied Architect / TOGAF certified. I would like to have a hands on experience with SAP now to diversify my skill sets. I am not sure where to start in SAP. Any suggestions or ideas? Is this is right or wrong move? Whether I should consider SAP certification?

I already asked this kind of question here,people prescribed me not to
go for SAP because I had no experience at all.But you have 11 years of
working experience in technologies.You can easily beat SAP and related
interviews ,as far as I can perceive.But be careful for the SAP institutes.Everyone claims they are best in business.

If you have no SAP exp at all that should not be a major deterrent as you'll have to start somewhere. I think if you have some java exp like 1-3 yrs it might make sense but too much java exp on the other hand will mean you have to start in a new job role from 0. I was reading some of the EP stuff and it seems there are a host of many new things that one will have to learn(not much related with java) to be able to work in an SAP EP environment?

I am not interested in SAP but asked for advice because I was frustrated and not able to find a job in JAVA field due to economy crisis.My question was like "Should I move from JAVA to SAP".

I would like do to technical work for the next five to ten years.Currently
I am jobless(was doing a non-technical monotonous job like data entry op)
and want to do live project training.While doing data entry op job ,I was
not in touch with JAVA and you know why.

All I need is strong real world exposure.

Sitting at home,I am getting diffident and lazy.

In face currently I am at Netherlands for last 1 year. I have observed Senior Architects having varied kind of experience in technologies such as SAP/J2EE etc. I was wondering if I need to get started with SAP where should I start with. I am keen on SOA, I have worked with technologies like ESB,IBM,BEA Aqualogic for SOA projects. If I need to do the same using SAP where should I get started with. Will it be a long struggle from ground zero?

Even I'm willing to learn SAP but not migrate to it immediately. I have around 5 years of Java/J2EE experience. I feel the necessecity to learn something new. Maybe Javaranch starts a new forum to discuss SAP related questions.
