Not really. I think the same thing happened to him somewhere around the South African Tour in '97 or some time after that.

But yeah he deserved to be booed. His batting stance has changed, his approach to the game has changed. Seems to me that he wants to let Sehwag have a go at it and keep rotating the strike on the other end. He's not playing his natural game anymore. Looks like a constipated Tendulkar out there.

Booing someone is absolutely sick and unprofessional. Even if he is not good enough to be in the team right now, booing a person who has been a national hero for so long is absolutely disgusting.

Had he been not a national hero Is it ok to do that?National hero doesn't mean he is not accountable.Consistently showing poor performance means something wrong with the player.Its a high time for Sachin to retire gracefully.Thank god that game was played in Mumbai.If match was in Pakistan or Australia Sachin fans would have got some reason that pitch is not perfect for Sachin.

Sports fans will boo at a player, or a coach, or a manager, whenever they feel like it. If that is disgusting behavior, then the vast majority of sports viewers all over the world are guilty of it at one time or another.

It depends on how you see the fan. If they are a paying customer who has gone to watch the game to be entertained, then it could be justified for them to boo. On the other hand, if they are going to the game to support the team, then booing is less good.

Personally I can't stand it. Given how often sports players (in football at least, I imagine its similar in other sports) say that the crowd support really boosts them and motivates them, booing a team you support seems to be a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

The fans of the team I support are not that great on the booing front. At the moment everything is fine because we're top of the league and looking at promotion , but its guaranteed that the next time we loose they will be booing and moaning. Crazy.

I don't know what's the big issue with booing. Everyone gets booed, Mark Waugh got booed, Herschelle Gibbs got booed, Kambli got booed(almost stoned), Pakistani cricketers always get cursed....

Bottom line is if you dont perform well(+ if you are playing in the Indian subcontinent ), you will get booed.

Tendulkar ruled out of one-day series

I don't know how much we can trust the reason stated, especially given the fact that injury & fitness are the regular excuses given by the selectors to throw someone out of the team (Funny to note that Sehwag remains in the team, though he is yet to come out of the back problems).

But if this omission has to do something with his current form, then the selectors have made a big mistake, I'm afraid. Sachin performed quite well in the ODIs in Pakistan, and ODIs are always his cup of tea.

I don�t want to argue with the people who are not happy with the Sachin�s recent performance because Sachin is a milestone for me (Even if he is not doing well currently). Whenever I judge any player, I compare him with Sachin.

That's exactly the problem. It is we who make them Gods and blame them the same way we blame our Gods when things doesn't go as we expect. They are players and everything will be fine if we treat them as players instead of immortals.

I think booing is not all that bad after all -- it gives glimpse of raw public emotions to the player; and any self respecting player should be motivated after that. I think Sachin will play much better in the second innings now.

Going beyond booing (as it happemned in case of Ravi Shastri) and deification should be avoided though.

I don't know if its the same in different sports, but many football players I've read interviews from about this subject say that fans who support the team help to boost the performance of the team. In the UK we often call the fans the "12th player" for that reason.

Perhaps it makes a difference if the fan is traditionally seen as supporting the team, or being part of the team. Often in football the fans see themselves as being as much a part of the club as the players... and perhaps more so! For example, when I talk about how well the Reading FC team is doing, I say "we" instead of "they". In this kind of situation, booing the team seems to me to be bad teamwork!

Perhaps the difference is cultural, and people from different cultural backgrounds and traditions respond differently to crowd reactions.

You are correct. When its time to go, its time to go.
But Sachin is far away from that. The thing is, he is not *OLD*
He is younger than Rahul Dravid, the captain of Indian cricket team.
He fields well. There is absolutely no problem with his running between the wickets. He has a very strong arm. He throws pretty flat and fast.
Given a chance, he even bowls well.

The only problem of late is his fitness, which is forcing him to change his style of batting. Inspite of that, i can emphatically say, he is still better than 3-4 players right now in the team.

He is currently having his shoulder operated. Wait and watch, he will be back.. he will once again show his form in the next world cup.


I once saw an old tape of West Indies Vs England cricket match.
Folks in the stadium stood as a sign of respect when Clive Lloyd walked in to bat.

But what do our idiots do ?? Boo when "Sachin" gets out.

Well Sachin is the only guy there who is married and has 2 kids!
Even though, going by human(read men) nature, it does not matter but one does tend to get a little spiritual after 10 years or so in marriage and seeing things like that day in and day(read night) out.
