I passed SCEA 5 part 1 today, scored 78%
Here is breakdown:
Application Design Concepts and Principles 55%
Common Architectures 87%
Integration and Messaging 83%
Business Tier Technologies 100%
Web Tier Technologies 75%
Applicability of Java EE Technology 77%
Patterns 87%
Security 62%

I am not satisfied with this score, I should have scored better if I could understand the question better, some questions are lengthy specially for a Chinese like me, it took me a lot time to just finish the reading of the sentences. Overall time is very tight.

This is a tough test. And I would be curious to know which questions I didn't score and why.

Here is the list of materials what I have used to prepare for this test:
1. Java Design Patterns (James W. Cooper)
2. Core J2EE Pattern
3. Core Security Pattern
4. JEE 5 tutorial (http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/)
5. EJB 3 spec (including JPA)
6. JSF spec
7. JAX-WS spec
8. http://www.geekinterview.com/question_details/5890
9. http://java.sun.com/webservices/docs/2.0/tutorial/doc/index.html
10. http://java.boot.by/scea5-guide/
11. Whizlabs SCEA5 simulator

My overall feeling of this test is
1. Definitely not easy, exam time is tight
2. The tests of EJB3/JSF/JAX-WS, etc are at very high level; reading spec is not required
3. If you have limited time for preparation, material from www.geekinterview is most important, and probably the only doc you need to read
4. Whizlabs SCEA5 simulator (or similar) not required at all, they are far too easy compared to the real exam, and too less JEE 5 stuff.

In the end, I would like thank you all

Cheers

Hi Dear,

You have completed your exam in very well way. Tougher question given you a way to learn before going for exam. I found that for giving sun certification exam you only need to concentrate on what are the objective, what should we know before giving exam.

Its top level exam and you have cleared part 1. Congrats for it. And do better preparation for 2nd part.

Thanks for sharing feelings about exam.
