Why would anyone be shocked. Last WC France were knocked out in Round one and they did not score a single goal.

Its just occured to me that if the Swiss draw nil-nil with South Korea and France win 2-1, that South Korea and France will have the same points, the same goals for and the same goals against. How does Fifa resolve that? Usually it would be decided by who won the match between South Korea and France, but they drew. Will they have to be got together for a penalty shootout or something ?!

This article (click on Group G) explains what happens for scenario like this. I think the matches tonight will be exciting.

The French never looked like they were playing to their strengths. Thierry Henry was never a box player. France keeps putting in crosses to him and wondering why he does not score. It is a shame as he is one of the best players in the world, when allowed to play in a way that suits him.

The Czech Republic are going home, they were second in the Fifa ranking, and had a very strong team. Well done Oz. Can anyone tell me why Ronaldo is still in the Brazil team, he has all the skill, but is just not interested.

Sven has blown Englands chances - some of the best players in the world and we worst manager.

Argentina to win.

The BBC had some statistic which said Henry has never scored for France off a Zidane pass. There must be some serious incompatabilities in that team. They kind of remind me of England; picking the best players on paper with no real thought about how they will play together.

I reckon England have blown their chances too - Defoe/Bent/Beattie/Johnson must all be cursing Sven right now.

I've heard that the manager of Argentina picked their best team players, and left out a few of their older star players.

England seems to be doing much the same thing as France, long Beckham crosses for Owen. Maybe if they start passing the ball through the midfield, as we have the players to do this. Hope the England players have practiced defending from the near post on corners, and also penalties kicks.

I visited Hamburg the day before yesterday, and saw Italy - Czech Republic 2:0 live.
Great atmosphere!

Is there somebody selling a Brasil-ticket?

Now I am all for Mexico.
Don't like to see this promising german team against Argentina.
Germany has some tradition in not playing against a really strong oponent before semifinals.

And now Mexico are gone. Bad luck Axel, you've got the Argentinians! Really good match though, its a pity to see Mexico go. The only poor team to watch left seems to be England.

Yes, you are right. Yesterday I think England was lucky to win considering the way they have shown their inability to score goals.

That should be good. Neither team seems that concerned about bothering to defend.

England is somehow managing to win matches.
Australia were unlucky and I dont think Italy will advance any further.
I am hoping for an upset today in Ghana vs Brazil match.

I'm pretty certain Italy will reach the final. They are always good in these sorts of competitions (without necessarily looking good). They have a horrible knack of doing just enough. And no one kills a game better than the Italians if they need to.

Woah, large can of worms there! There is a large rivalry between the Home Nations' football teams, and the rivalry between England and Scotland is particularly large (more so from the Scots' point of view).

There is talk of the UK entering a joint team into the 2012 Olympics, but Wales and Scotland are wary of this. They fear that it may give UEFA an excuse to end the Home Nations' right to have separate football associations and teams. Most people in the UK would not like this to happen - we have a long tradition of separate leagues and competitions (the first in the world) and would not like to see this situation end.

Scotland vs. England was the first ever international football game, in 1872.
