Recently i had to attend a party with my college mates and everybody had whisky or wine or some sort of alochol on that day except me.I don't take any alcoholic drink.I found my self so seperated and i had only Appy Fizz for me.

I just want to know how do you handle those kind of situations.

I think you did the right thing...Just be yourself...Don't try to make people happy by doing things which you don't like..Even I don't drink..but I go out with my friends to parties and pub just to give them company....I either drink coke, pepsi or some fruit drink there....

You totally did the right thing, people should respect the fact that you don't drink alcohol, just like you respect their decision to drink alcohol!

Most parties I went to in college would be happy if people did not drink. More booze for them. lol

Volunteer to be the "designated driver" and they will love you.

Just ask for a soda, mineral water, etc.

But I love the crack: if I drink, I get violent, should shut them up for a while.

I too dont drink and the biggest problem is not refusing a drink but the isolation

whether its parties, causaul team building (our manager buys every one a bear once in a month ), or meeting with new businees clients @ dinner

if you dont drink you find your self in a ackward position, truly i was never able to solve this situation rather than just avoiding the party altogether

I think it can help if you have a non alcoholic drink in your hand. The (false) impression that some people who drink alcohol socially have is that someone without a drink in their hand isn't part of the social circle, and it makes the alcohol drinkers uncomfortable (weird I know!). Several of my non alcohol drinking colleagues do exactly this and it seems to work for them.

Going to a party and not having alcohol is like going to a theater and not watching the movie

I face same problem on every 31 dec night party. My friends come to my vacation home to celebrate & ....
Last time i take glass which 25% contain alcohol & keep in hand till my friends completely hang! When any friend asked me why you not drink in one sip, i take bottle & add again some alcohol & chat with some matter which related to that friends secret so other friends catch that & forget me & asked all about that friend. So i not in trouble that time.
But now i think this year i have to think different idea.

Because everyone gets drunk, you mean? You need some more grown-up friends.

I agree holding something is good. It can be juice, water or soda. Overall though, I think it depends on the purpose of the drinking. If the party is to relax and socialize, holding anything is fine. If it is just to get drunk and rowdy (as some college parties are), you won't fit in no matter what you do. And you don't want to. If drinking isn't your thing, an event solely for the purposes of getting drunk isn't something you'll find fun.

Exactly!

Then beer won't come over and try to start up a conversation.

New Years Eve is a very dangerous party. We call it "amateur drinking night", as the professional know to stay home and off the roads.
Clearly this is cultural, I hear that in Japan, it more important to get a great looking date than to get drunk.
