session.Connection is deprecated?

I am a newbie to hibernate and I reallly need a way to call stored procedures. Some of the procedures are complex and I would prefer to call them using createNativeQuery or CallableStatement. Here is the problem. I found that session.Connection is deprecated. This is huge. Is there a replacement for this as I really need to gain access to the Connection object from hibernate. The createNativeQuery approach is going to severely handicap my capabilities. Can someone please provide a sound workaround. I already have an ORM-like utility I deisgned and can pass the connection to this, but I need the connection.
