Hi Ranchers,

I have started getting bored with doing IT job and am thinking about career options other than IT..Civil Services(Indian administrative service & Indian police service) seems to be an attractive option and am planning to prepare for that..Is anyone here preparing or aspiring for civil services examination. Can someone give pointers about how to go ahead preparing for these examinations..Are you aware of any good coaching institutes in Bangalore..?

hi,
There is age limit for OC . I think it is 29. The maximum number of tries is 3 .The norms are different if you belong to SC or ST . It is a good option, lots of power and influence .

regards

Here you go on information about UPSC

http://www.indicareer.com/competitive-exams/UPSC-eligibility.html#Minimum%20Educational%20Qualifications

I have now around four years of experience in IT. Though the work I am doing is sort of ok and I am good in it, but I don’t think that I would love to see my self working on it for rest of my life. Or I will say I still haven't found the work which I love to do when every morning I woke up.

Sadly Computer science is not an optional subject both in Prelims and Main..The optional subjects are
Agriculture
Mathematics
Animal Husbandry & Vetinary Science
Mechanical Engineering
Botany
Medical Science
Chemistry Philosophy
Civil Engineering
Physics
Commerce
Political Science
Economics
Psychology
Electrical Engineering
Public Administration
Geography
Sociology
Geology
Statistics
Indian History
Zoology
Law

Two optional subjects have to be chosen and am thinking about opting fro Geography and Public Administration..

Do you love the country and want to serve people and the society ?
Will you put the people's/country's interests ahead of your own?
Are money/comforts secondary to you?

Take up the civil services only if the above qualities are present in you.
Because the amount of hard work required is so much that the motivation of I want to make making my mom proud of me might not be enough .

civils results are out..

"There are nine engineers in the top 25. Interestingly, Shubra Saxena, 30, is herself a graduate of IIT Roorkee but took psychology and public administration as optional subjects for her second shot at the UPSC. ``I have been preparing since 2006. Prior to that, I worked in the IT industry for four-and-a-half years"

hey Rambo, hope you will tell a similar story next year.. All the best..!!
