As for not being able to agree on when seasons start, well that's always going to work out differently for northern & southern hemispheres.

We here in the Southern hemisphere seem to manage talking about "summer" and "winter" without any confusion so long as the "northern hemisphere" decsriptor is added before talking about non-local seasons!.
