Simple MIDI program - not working?

Hey all, I've tried to run this code which in theory should produce a single sound on the default synthesizer (using Java Sound API), but it doesn't do anything. The code seems to be fine according to my IDE, so I'm not sure what the problem might be?

Hi,
I'm guessing you're a beginner, So I suggest you stop the use of an IDE and use the command line and a text editor ...

There is a much better way to produce sound than a synthesizer.. You could use a Sequencer, as :

	{

			Sequencer player=MidiSystem.getSequencer();

			Track track=seq.createTrack();
			int note=44;//the note to be played
			int startTick=0;
			int stopTick=16; //duration 

			ShortMessage a=new ShortMessage();
			a.setMessage(144,1,note,100); /*144 is the command to press down the key,1 is channel 1, 100 represents how "hard" you press down*/
			MidiEvent noteOn=new MidiEvent(a,startTick);
			track.add(noteOn);
			
			ShortMessage b=new ShortMessage();
			b.setMessage(128,1,note,100); //128 is the command to stop pressing the key at note
			MidiEvent noteOff=new MidiEvent(b,stopTick);
			track.add(noteOff);
			
			player.setSequence(seq);

			player.start();
			



		}
