Hi Khalid and Rolf,
I didn't read your book, but people worship your book and said the books explain the very minute technical details with JVM quirks, but speaking such technical, how can book bind the user, there must be something interesting so that user can bound itself with book.

I used K&B and one thing I really like is the way things are written in humorous manner and book literally talks with you using phrases , like "OK..", "You got it", "Compiler is not Happy"

How much one can expect a witty lines in your book ?

Admittedly we are more sober in our writing style.
But that does not mean that the book is devoid of humor.
Check out the sample chapters on the book website: http://www.ii.uib.no/~khalid/pgjc3e/

I do not necessary like humor in programming books esp. Certification books. You are here to study and buy cheap. <evil laughter> and stuff like that is just a deviation from the actual. I would appreciate the more important points being marked and highlighted than reading useless material

Vyas, you completely misunderstand my post, what I wanted to know is style of writing from the author. Being normal reader I just don't want many technical things written plainly and there is no harm if some funny witty lines introduced in chapters(Just to make reader relax little bit). May be the "humor" word in my post is wrong, but I'm fascinated the way K&B puts technical things (I thinks the great success of Head First series lies in it).

No I never misunderstood your post. My post is very relevant to what you are describing. I respect your thoughts about what book you want to read but that does not mean I don't disagree with you.

My view:- I like technical books to concentrate only on technical matter and give the reader less of verbiage. I would like certification books to highlight important aspects of certification and cover a little more than what is needed.

And then again some people shoot ducks!
My sympathy is with the ducks, regardless of their fate.
I sincerely hope that ducks are not a metaphor for authors of certification books!

I think this thread is the funniest thread in this forum. Like the topic i think.
And maybe that's related to the headfirst formula.
You'll remember the stuff if that is out of the ordinary
Like the poor duck in SCJP Forum.

That's fine i think. Different people, different preference. I think that's normal.

Agreed. Both books are great but the humor quotient in the K&B and Head First series makes them more readable and interesting.

Seriously? That's what you're going with? I prefer this tiny ad:
