If that question is answered, nobody would ever live or life would become a purposeless formality. Think less, live more.

From Forrest gump movie:

You died on a Saturday morning and I had you placed here under our tree. And I had that house of your father's bulldozed to the ground. Momma always said dyin' was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn't. Little Forrest, he's doing just fine. About to start school again soon. I make his breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. I make sure he combs his hair and brushes his teeth every day. Teaching him how to play ping pong. He's really good. We fish a lot. And every night, we read a book. He's so smart, Jenny. You'd be so proud of him. I am. He, uh, wrote a letter, and he says I can't read it. I'm not supposed to, so I'll just leave it here for you. Jenny, I don't know if Momma was right or if, if it's Lieutenant Dan. I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time. I miss you, Jenny. If there's anything you need, I won't be far away.

Calvin and Hobbes have a perspective on it:

Calvin: Why do you suppose we're here?

Hobbes: Because we walked here.

Calvin: No, no . . . I mean here on Earth.

Hobbes: Because Earth can support life.

Calvin: No, I mean, why are we anywhere? Why do we exist?

Hobbes: Because we were born.

Calvin: Forget it.

Hobbes: I will. Thank you.

According to me among the question tags like Why? What? Where? When? How? Who? whose?, the tag Why? is a bottomless pit. It can never be answered. Try it yourself...

That depends on who you're trying to satisfy with an answer, and what significance they've ascribed the question in the first place.

An answer of "42" says something about the question. Do we really understand what we're asking?

Well think why you asked this question , what actually made you think why are we living .. ?

Some questions are of nature temporary nature like hunger you satisfy it doesnt disturb for some time again try to identify the Root Cause what made you think this

few possibilities
You may be down not having got what you want
you are not driving the stress enouogh from your head
check all you relationships are you doing really Ok
more simple did you have your breakfast today I mean the day
you asked this question
are you have enough breaks/vacation admists your assignments

We get this question in our minds because we are all thinking like humans. Humans always have a paired approach towards thinking (duality). If there is right, there is wrong. If there is good, there is evil. If there is beauty, there is ugliness too. One can find many examples alike.

Why are we living was the question? We are always living. In fact, we never stopped living. We are living the life, sometime after we'll live the death. Before our birth, we were living the cipher/cypher/zero/null/void. We'll continue to live no matter what happens. We all are here in the second stage. Stage three is where we all ultimately want to be - the destination.

Stage two is typical and special in that you cannot believe that the other stages exist. Retention is limited by the earthly physics. Other stages are under the control of the meta-physical unknown.

So,
1) are we living to die?
or
2) did I live to die?.

What's the difference in the above questions? A person is correct if he/she asks question 1 only in stage 2 and also correct if he/she asks the question 2 only in stage 3. So this experiment in life is not complete. You are not wanting to know the question yourself in this incomplete experiment, do you?

Let wait for completion or absolution.

We are forced to born in this earh.
And the day we understand the life/death comes too late when we start enjoying the life.

Following are the questions which were rolling in my mind over years and reason for starting this thread:

To Theist:Who created god??
Is god male OR female?
Is there only one god OR many gods??(Coz there are hundreds of religions and one/more god for each religion)
Why did god create universe and living beings? was it done just like a game? I mean what is the reason behind creating the universe?
Does donkey, dog, tree, bacteria etc have after life? Do they also go to hell OR heaven?
Is all religion true?? Is only one of them true? OR All of them false?

To Athiest:
Is universe infinity?? If so, how can this be possible??
If the universe happened by chance, then where did matter come from?? Did it come from nothing?
Who specified rules of the universe? I mean why should gravity be pull force, why not push? Why should water contain hydrogen, why not cyanide?
How can you say with conviction that god does not exist?

Who created god??

If someone has created God, he would not be 'God' in first place. Creator of God would have been God. You can realise, it goes into a indefinite loop by approaching THE answer in this direction of creation/destruction.

Is god male OR female?

God is neither male nor female. Let me explain by introducing "THE SELF".

The human body is a complex pattern of physical energies. Atomic particles build together to form the organic structures and inorganic minerals, which perform the body's chemical interactions, thus forming the basis of the hormonal and nervous control of the body. What we see as the old or young, ugly or beautiful, male or female, are also the differing levels of physical energies. However marvelous a machine the body may be, it is the presence of the non-physical conscious energy, the soul, which makes it function.

I am a soul (Atma), eternal and immortal. The body is mortal;

God is a subtle, infinitesimal point of Light. He is not visible to the naked eye but it is very much possible to experience His presence and proximity in meditation. He is also called as SUPREME SOUL. He doesn't have any body. Hence, neither male nor female.

Is there only one god OR many gods?? Is all religion true?? Is only one of them true? OR All of them false?

ONE and ONLY ONE. There are hundreds of religions because everyone is heading in different directions to GOD, but the destination is same.

Why did god create universe and living beings? was it done just like a game?

Einsteins' proven Law states "Energy is neither created nor destroyed"

Universe is made up of energy. All souls and Supreme soul (God) are all forms of energy. They are neither created nor destroyed.

Yes, you are right. This is a game alias drama happening where each soul plays its role. Earth is drama stage. The other planets, moon, stars are all decorating this center stage.

Regards,
Shiv (A Soul *)

Seriously, I would encourage you to consider what an answer like "42" says about our understanding of the question. If we had the perspective to grasp "answers" to these questions, we probably wouldn't be asking these things in the first place.

For example, you ask things like who created God? Is God male or female? Is there one God or many? But what if you got definitive answers: "There are seven and a half gods, all female, created by ______." Would this really tell you anything? Or would it only raise more questions?

In other words, what is it you really want to know?

The general idea is that "GOD" has "decided" to manifest itself
in the material world (the "why" is still a mystery to me. I have to
assume that IT thought it would be "better" than not doing it. It
could also be argued that IT was a narcissistic decision to decide to
become matter so that it could observe itself from the physical
world.) I choose to believe the first option. It was "better" for IT
to become matter than not. Of course this matter would have to
*evolve* to become self observing and self-analytical. The self
observing universe that we have *now*. After all think about it.
Aren't you and me conglomerates of chemical elements composed
themselves from fundamental particles? And are we not able to
determine this through observation of the surrounding Universe? Of
course we are. We do it all the time. How did this come about? How did
we/IT get here?

It is my view, that the IT chose the best possible way to
manifest Itself materially (so that It could observe Itself from the
other, material side). The best way is documented, IMHO, by how the
Universe is thought to have come about. First "Nothing" then "Creation
ex nihilo". Suddenly there was an intense energy concentration never
to be observed again (?), immediately after, there was a quark and
lepton (NOT Lipton) "soup" which rapidly combined into elementary
particles and these particles (about a 100,000 yrs later) into
Hydrogen atoms. When the temperature was "low" enough these atoms
started forming molecules which millions if not billions of years
later, through some mechanism not identified exactly so far (last time
I looked) formed LIVING CELLS. Before that of course there were
minerals.

The "Consciousness of IT" was in every fundamental particle since
the beginning, but expressed only at the level that these particles
behaved. For example, and electron has a (primitive) consciousness of
a nearby proton and it acts accordingly. If they are both "single",
they may make, between the two of them, a 3rd distinct particle, the
hydrogen atom. Two dissimilars join to form a third, distinct
form/species/element whatever.

Then "the rest is history". Molecules evolved into cells. IT
knew, from the beginning that this was the route to follow if IT
wanted to manifest Itself fully in the material world so that It could
finally observe Itself from the material world which required matter
to evolve to the level of Human.

It is my opinion that IT knew some of the "cons" of having done
this. "MAN" being a copy of what IT was and with plenty of FREE WILL
had the POTENTIAL to screw up royally. Something akin to the proverb
"To err is human but to *really* fowl things up requires a computer"
. But IT apparently accepted this potential disadvantage and
went through with The Plan anyway.

So the consciousness of IT has gone through ALL levels, from
quarks and leptons to humans like Mother Theresa and Adolf Hitler.
Passing through plants and animals... There was just no other way <g>.

I *believe* that it was better for there to be "something rather
than nothing" and that is essentially what holds my <em>belief</em> as it is,
no matter how I am doing or the world is

Wait a minute, <em>what was the question</em>!?
