What would be the configuration for a high performing Laptop that might run all java stuff like Tomcat, JBoss, Netbeans and MySql all together.

Suggestion on brand and model would be highly appreciated

Just about anything could handle those, though the more RAM the better usually. Try to get 2GB.

Any reason why you need NetBeans and JBoss to run at the same time?

Perhaps a learning exercise that would give hands on recent java stuff.

Well do you have any idea on choosing Dell Inspiron or Dell Latitude series?

I could not conclude as there are so many configurations in both these series which are built using Core´┐Ż2 Duo Mobile Processor upto T7700 and 1GB to 4GB RAM.

Thanks for your reply

I just got a Lenovo T60p with Ubuntu for doing exactly that kind of serious java/netbeans/tomcat/mysql/apache/... stuff.

I went with two CPUs @2gHz, 2GB ram, fast SATA disk. Its got a real Video card. Its pretty nice.

I tried to buy a Dell with Ubuntu, but they couldn't deliver it quickly, and they only have one model with Ubuntu. So I went to linuxcertified.com and they had several models, brands, etc. The system was not cheap, about $2500 delivered, but its wonderful.

If you don't need Windows, I'd strongly recommend some Linux. Take the money you save on licenses and get fast CPUs or more RAM

I love linux and kinda KVM switch b/n linux and windows os, can you do everything with open office, what if you would like to listen to music using comcast's rhapsody, on linux OS would be difficult, would it? Would love to roll of windows completely primarly to escape viral issues.
