I am planning to answer my SCJP soon.
After browsing various websites over the past couple of days I have understood that it is a 2 stage process
1. Buy SCJP voucher
2. Book a date with an authorized prometric center

However I am in a little bit of confusion regarding step 1

I reside in India and I know that I can buy a voucher online from the SUN India website which costs about Rs. 7200/-...It has a validity of about 1 yr and there is no FREE RETAKE (Promo has expired on 20th june)..I think you can get this voucher from prometric centers too for the same price..

But then I heard of people who are giving away SUN vouchers for lesser prices..However I think their validity is lesser than a yr, probably a few months only..
What are these low price vouchers and from where can I get them ?? Do they have free retake option ??
It will help me save a some bucks..

Thanks

you can get the voucher from any prometric centre but the price varies. google for low price voucher.

i know one prometric centre in kolkata offering it for 4500 bucks but have only 4 months validity.

The lower price vouchers are valid. Check their dates, but they're valid for the exam.

As you are in India I would recommend you check out NIIT.The voucher is available for around Rs. 3700 INR to Rs. 4000 INR.

All the best. See you around

But if I buy it from the Kolkata prometric centre , then can I take the test at any other prometric center in India where I wish to ??
And do these low price vouchers have the promo offer of the free retake(Just asking... I hope I wont need it )

you can give the exam anywhere in the country but about retake you will have to talk to prometric centre as low price vouchers generally don't fall in those category due to old date of purchase. so be careful while purchasing if you want a retake.

The offer is open to all the aspirants of SCJP. NIIT is an authorized Prometric center and vouchers can be bought by any one and also the voucher can be transferred.....And yes you can take the exam anywhere in India(NIIT, if voucher bought from the same). And about the retake voucher i.e the voucher that has more that one attempts associated to it are not available in india. But still if you want to know about this search for the voucher code that has retakes and you can enquirer in context to that code at the prometric center.

Thanks for the info..I heard that NIIT has the best deals on those low price vouchers...

Actually I do not stay in a big city..Here there are 2 Authorized Prometric centers which are operated by 2 different companies which offer various training modules like for MCSE, CCNA and SCJP...
So I think they might also be having these low price vouchers but I'm not sure..So I thought that I would probably ask my friend to get it for me from NIIT and answer the SCJP at one of these 2 centers..But going by what you just said I think thats not gonna be possible..

Can someone confirm whether a low price voucher purchased from NIIT can be used to give the test at any authorized prometric test center other than NIIT ??

no. if you buy your "low-price" (and shorter validity) voucher from niit, then you have to give your exam at niit-prometric centres only (though it can be
anywhere in the country i guess)!

And you can contact prometric centres for details about the 1-year validity vouchers (the costlier ones).
