Problem Uninstalling jdk-6u14-i586

Hello everybody,

I get the following error while uninstalling the jdk-6u14-i586 & the jdk cannot be uninstalled.

Fatal error during installation.


Could anybody help me please?

Thanks for the welcome to JAVA RANCH.I am delighted to be a part of it.

The error listed is the exactly as it appears in the Error box of the Add or Remove programs Menu in the CONTROL PANEL.One of the files in the jdk seems to be corrupt.

Actually I am trying to setup Liferay5.2.3 which needs the installation of jdk.But I am getting the error

Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

I googled the error & got the suggestion to reinstall the jdk.

Is there no other solution to it other than formatting my Hard Drive?

Formatting your harddrive just because you're getting an error you don't understand? That's taking it a bit far...

So, you already have a JDK installed, but you want to uninstall it - so that you can install a newer JDK? And you get the error while uninstalling the JDK? You could try just deleting the JDK installation directory.

Which seems to suggest that it is a memory based problem ? Try deleting the directory if it will not uninstall. A new install should update registry entries anyway.

How much RAM do you have?
If you are running Windows it might be worthwhile running disk cleanup and defragmenting your hard drive.
