Hi all,

I've been tampering with java for a year now and I have a basic understanding of how it works. I now want to get involved in an open source project to improve my skills, can anyone recommend a good project. I am not a full-time coder so nothing too heavy...

try java.net for open source stuff

open souce is cool, in the meantime don't rule out your own personal learning project, unless it's really the collaboration thing that interests you. If you follow the link in my sig you can find out about my learning project.

Thanks for the tips, I am learning java via 'www.oreillyschool.com' which is practical project based although the projects aren't that large, but its a start. I currently work in QA but I am hoping my current employer will train me up in the not too distant future I also aim to take the SCJP exam but that is a while off.

I would also recommend http://www.ohloh.net/. It is not all Java, but you can search their project database to bring up Java projects.

I completed SCJP and also want to write SCWCD. I am preparing for that. I have knowledge on theory part but not on practical that is on project side. I want to complete application usage in a Project so please suggest me any open source project site or guide me to do a project. I am kindly requesting you all people. Please consider this request as a personal request to all. I am waiting for yours fast reply.

Well as I stated, look in the Jobs Offered forum here (there are a few projects advertising there) or try sourceforge.net and offer your help!
