I have seen a lot of questions about beginners using struts and I have some thoughts on the subject. I started using struts a little over a year ago and before that didn't know anything about it. I approached it in a way that I don't recommend, I read everything that I could on struts and found out very quickly that I was in over my head.
So, I took a step back and started using it immediately and played with it and then went back to the books. Always going back to the computer to reinforce what I just read because struts can be confusing if you are just trying to pick it up in a book. Eventually, I felt comfortable with the framework and once that happens your development time will decrease dramatically and productivity will rise.
So, to make a long story short, gets your hands dirty using struts, don't think you will know it from just reading a book. I do have a tutorial that I wrote that will get you going with the basics, if anyone is interested.

Right now I just have it zipped up but since there seems to be a few who want to look at it, I will put it out on the web tonight. I will post the link here after I get out there.
