Which one do you suggest in Ultra Portable laptops? I am considering "eee pc" from Asus, how is it? Any feedback or any other suggestion/recommendation?

I guess the eee pc from Asus is a netbook rather a notebook. Why not go for Lenovo R400s. Saw some reviews in youtube and it looks awesome but pricey.

I know a coupel people that have Acer's, and they like them pretty well. I don't have one personally, though.

Nah, no Acer please! I don't trust that brand....

After some inital consideration, I am considering following options -

Asus eee-pc 10065 HA
Lenovo S-10-2 with 250 GB HDD and Windows 7 starter (concerned due to OS)

Maybe I can consider Samsung or Dell Inspiron Mini 10 if I could get a chance to see them, haven't had chance to see them though!

No to Samsung as well. Reiterating... best for you would be the Lenovo and you will never repent.

I think this is a terrible configuration.

Notebooks are great at what they do, but they are not laptops. They are for communications where you know you have the Internet.

Storing a quarter terabyte on one, expecting it to run Photoshop, etc. is just wrong. Get a real computer for that.

All IMHO, YMMV, etc.

They have already named it "netbook" before we call it that. I'm trying to help you here. Have a look at Lenovo 410s. Feel it and you will really like it.

I have a Dell Mini 9 (which is just slightly smaller than the Dell Mini 10). It's good for reading e-mail, surfing the web and doing other light tasks. The screen is small and the processor is not very fast, so it's not really good for heavier tasks like photo editing (the screen is just too small for that). So, don't expect it to be a full replacement for a regular laptop or desktop computer.

I took it with me on holiday, mainly so that I could read and send e-mail in places where I had Internet access, and it's great for that, because it's small and easy to carry.

That's what I need it for as well. I need it when I am travelling. I already have bigger 17" Dell that works fine, but I need it as second easy-to-carry laptop. I need it basically for mails & editing viewing few docs and likes.

I had a look at HP mini and disliked it.. Dell Inspiron mini 10 is ok, but rather bland.
@ Jothi Shankar Kumar - I understand you're trying to help me, but only model that is available in Lenovo is S10-2, which is plain bad configuration, especially due to their choice of OS. I am not interested in laptops with 13 or 14" screen, so I am not considering Lenovo R400s. My point is whether you call it ultra-portable (my term in the post) or Netbook, my requirement is clear - I need 10" screen with good battety life. I don't even run Photoshop on my real 1 TB desktop, so I am not even considering that for Netbook/Ultra Portable, but bigger hard disk is definitely a plus (so is 2 GB memory, which will definitely add).

After my homework I have shortlisted 3 models for my consideration -

(1) Asus 1005 HA - though I haven't had a chance to look at it.
(2) Samsung N140 - I am impressed by its reviews and battery life.
(3) Lenovo S10-2 - only if I get a good deal on this one. I can dump Windows Starter 7 (which doesn't even allow to change its wallpaper and with 1 GB it would be pain to run it) and put Ubuntu Netbook remix or JoliCloud on that.

Any suggestions here?

TIA,
- Manish
