Why is that SCJP costs around Rs5000 to Rs7000 in India and costs 300$(around Rs25000) in Pakistan ?

Hi,
I noticed this issue when I was purchasing an SCJP voucher...all of the sun certifications cost around Rs5000 to Rs7000 in India where as it costs 300$ here in Pakistan just to get a single certification voucher... although India and Pakistan are both neigbour countries, both came into existance at almost the same time and Pakistan is economically a much poor country as compared to India .... can any one explain to me about this drastic difference in the price ?

Maybe it has to do something with the exchange rate? Difference between Indian Rupee and Pakistan Rupee?

So it's 25000/2 INR.

I think it's because some institutes purchase vouchers in bulk at cheap price & then they sell it to candidates at bargain price. If coupon is going to expire soon they might sell it for even lesser price than 5000 INR.

So basically it's because of number of people writing this exam in India is much higher than Pakistan, which is making this difference, just my opinion - I've no proof of that.

Are you sure it costs you 300$. Others from pakistan have taken the exam before and they did not complain about the price

@ Deepak: yes I am sure, one of my friends gave the exam for 300$, i was gona purchase the voucher on this price too but then I got to know about SAI and purchased it of 40$ instead...I think Ankur may be right, i searched for an institute in Pakistan which sells SCJP vouchers but coulnd'nt find even one, only prometric was selling the voucher for 300$...but I dont agree with ankur on the point that more people are giving SCJP exam in India thats why it it cheaper there...I think if it was cheaper in Pakistan more people would have been giving it here too...I know people who want to give the exam but can't because they cant afford to pay 300$ and these people can't even take advantage of the SAI program because they are no more students...

Ali, try some different prometric centers. The prometric centers in India sometimes have discounted voucher. The prometric center from where I gave both SCJP and SCWCD had discounted vouchers (it was an IIHT center)...

IIHT stands for Indian Institute of Hardware Technology. Its a IT training institute like NIIT. Both NIIT and IIHT seems to have discounted vouchers. There might be similar institutes in Pakistan which have discounted vouchers which you can use...

Hi ,
I called all the prometric centers in the city (karachi) and asked them about the pricing and discount on SCJP...all of them told me the price was 300USD and as for the discounts...there wasnt any at all...infact they told me that they even add government taxes to this amount of 300US$ because this amount isnt inclusive of taxes...this means the price of SCJP in Pakistan is not 300$ but it it 300$+15%tax .... this is so unfair....how do they expect an average person with an income of 10000Rs-12000Rs (thats what a programmer gets here on an average) to go for a certification that costs them more then twice of what they earn...

@Adeel,
S.A.I was put to an end after Oracle acquired Sun so you cant do OCPJP any more through SAI.
If you are in Karachi, you can call TechnoEd (it is an affiliate of Oracle University) and it might be able to provide you the voucher at discount.
