about jdbc provider

I am fairly new to websphere.please tell me ,why we are configuring jdbc provider in websphere?I am alredy using hibernate so it will take care of all database related issues.so what is the use if i maintain a jdbc provider and data source in WAS?

and one more question is....

if i create JdbcProvider and datasource in WAS,does my application code use this configuration to interact with database(how it is possible.I already maintain jdbc.properties file which is invoked by spring at runtime to create datasource)?



please clear the above doubts which have been distrubing me for 1 week.

Yes you will have to create a JDBC Provider and JDBC Datasource, which you will refer from your Spring/Hibernate application.
