i was asked this question at an interview - what are the difficulties you faced in this project ?

Interviewer gave me an example -- like i was using string but instead i had to use stringbuilder etc.. i feel those are the basic technical things which we should already be knowing.
any ideas

-- Changing requirements.
-- Gaps in requirements and design.
-- Dependency on exernal services or other internal services.
-- Insufficient documentation
-- Domain and system expertise are scattered.

Be prepared for questions like "How did you overcome those difficulties"

Well, if the question pertains to a particular project, then you should know the answer, and should know it to excruciating detail. In fact, you may have a laundry list of issues.... Keep in mind, the interviewer is trying to drill down to a project that you worked on. Staying high level is not a good idea here.

If I were an interviewer I will be interested in the technical problems faced by the candidate.

The options Ankur suggested are perfectly fine and they happen everywhere but that look like a polished answer.

Arulk.

The interviewer might have meant what did you learn as opposed to what difficulties you encountered. So what did you learn?

The interviewer is trying to evaluate

-- Your experience
-- Your soft-skills
-- Your attitude
-- Your work ethics

Use Situation Action Result approach to answer this question.

Hi,

The interviewer was trying to know your skills, experience, compatibility with the technology used. You should analyze yourself for the answer of this question.

Thanks.
