I don't think some one will learn music by using the Internet (at least, this is my case).
Having a teacher saves you HUGE disappoints as the teacher will always puts you on the right track.
I tried to learn Spanish guitar in past using some ebooks but I failed miserably.
I have been with my teacher for one year and half, and I'm a happy junior flamenco player

Sorry, but learning to play the guitar is always work. You have to practice, and you need to use good form.

Playing a guitar is fun, but you have to do the work.

If all you want to play is loud rock, you can get there more quickly, but to properly play just takes time. And practice.
And a teacher can really help.

If you want to learn as fast as possible -- get a teacher. If you're happy learning at a snail's pace, then just stick with the internet. Either way, listen a lot, play a lot, and play songs that you enjoy hearing.

I believe that's Erik Bulling on guitar, but I don't know anything about him. I found tab for that song at AZChords.com -- no idea how accurate it is (most tab on the internet is ridiculously off). If you're a real beginner, this will be challenging, but worth working on.

In general it's better to practice 10 minutes a day than to practice 70 minutes once a week.

I love that Fulltone Full-Drive! That is "the tone" I've been after for years. I also have an early GT-500 (2-digit serial number) in silver/gray. I need a nice overdrive because that Mesa/Boogie amp is a Subway Blues that does not have a master volume.

Which Fender amp do you use?* I have a blackface Twin reissue that I love, but it's just too loud -- not to mention heavy. I also have an early-80's Fender (Rivera) Montreux that's solid state, but surprisingly good.

* EDIT: Doh! I didn't click on the link: Fender Blues Deluxe reissue, 40 watts into a 12" with spring reverb. NICE!

Hey Vishal,

Have you found the Ultimate Guitar site?

There's a huge number of songs on there. All of them are transcribed by the users, though, so some of them aren't so great, but it uses a 'stars' system of user feedback so you can only pick the tabs that other people thought were good.

There's also a lot of apps and software out there that can provide some reasonably convincing backing tracks for you to play over the top of. In particular these can be good for practicing scales over, because it forces you to play them in a variety of rhythms which is much more useful than playing them without any discernable rhythm. You can practice leading over the top as well if you like, but I've always prefered playing over actual songs because its a lot more fun to be playing with Jimi Hendrix than a digital virtual studio!

How to find out if the instructor is expert, and how long should one go for a class, before they can be fairly ok, to pick any song pretty quick...
