The number one rule at JavaRanch, the one everyone agrees to when they register, is "Be Nice." The thread you point to contained a number of examples of folks violating that rule, and therefore it has been removed. I hope we won't see any future discussions degenerate to that point.

It looks like that thread got off track and no longer served a purpose.
In theory we could have a meta-discussion about why the thread was considered off track and why it has gone away, but my suggestion is that the contributors spend their time doing more productive things.

I think the level of censorship we do makes for an excellent site. I think any site worth visiting practices some level of censorship (otherwise they would be loaded to the gills with porn and spam). Some sites are a little heavier on the delete button than others. JavaRanch is on the heavy end of the delete spectrum. Some people are offended by this much censorship - so it's a good thing there are lots of other sites on the internet to visit.
