The Spring container is the part of Spring that creates and wires together your beans and handles their lifecycle. The BeanFactory interface defines the basic methods of the Spring container. ApplicationContext defines some extended methods. In the Spring docs, Chaper 3 - The IOC Container describes the container in detail.
