Hi Ranchers.
I am student of Msc IT. I want to make Home Automation Project as my final Project in Java. I want to controll(On/Off) only one light.
Please someone give me ideas about it.

1:- What hardware are used.
2:- Any tutorial/Book or Sample Code to program it.

Me personaly wouldn't use Java to connect to some hardware without a Java supported udelying OS. I think C/C++ might be easyer. Could you please give us more details on your project?

You could use an Arduino for that: a small hardware board that you can configure any way you like, and you can get software for it to control it from Java.

X10 is popular, and any X10-computer interface (serial, USB, etc.)

This project should take about 10 minutes to code once you have the hardware. I'm not entirely convinced it's suitable for a final project.

After controlling one light i want to extend it by controlling different electrical things.
I want to automate a house model by providing java interfaces.
I need hardware detail that are needed to attach with computer and its cost.
