I'm creating a game that will be hosted on the google app engine, which technology would be best for the front end or user interace?
I'm thinking that an
applet
may not be suitable to my game, and neither will regular
JSP
pages, what other alternatives do I have?

It depends on the type of game you want to make. Flash is popular, but I think an applet with JOGL should work excellent.
