I suspect that it will not work. Your TV expects analog inputs. I believe that HDMI is digital (and it might even be encrypted).

Does your laptop have a VGA connector? It should - connecting the projector is a common laptop task. You could get a cable like in the following link (heck, my last 2 laptops came with such connectors):

Thank you for your reply Peter. My laptop has VGA output. The cable you have mentioned will not work for me because my tv has female connectors. I have few questions.

- Even though my ports matches ,why above mentioned cable will not work? If the encryption and/or analog/digital is the problem then where this cable can be used?

- How about this cable? VGA into laptop and RCA into TV?

Yes it will, you just need a patch cable. The wires on the adapter probably won't reach from the laptop to the TV anyway, so you need a patch cable that has male connectors on both side. Something like this:
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS371US373&q=s-video+rca+patch+cable&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=12121720927523022765&ei=pjcSTcfmB8L-8Aa13_X4DQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDwQ8wIwAg#
Also, this kind of patch cable is very common and sold in most household electronics stores (where TVs are sold).

then where this cable can be used?

You can plug it into an HD TV.

How about this cable? VGA into laptop and RCA into TV?

I'm not sure, but I don't think so.

And one more thing. I once hooked up my laptop to my analog TV. The results were less than impressive. First, analog TV uses 480i (which is 640x480). Second, for some reason my laptop used only a fraction of that space making the picture even smaller with a large black border, but that could just have been my laptop's problem. Finally, if your laptop has an HDMI port I assume that it also has a Blu-Ray player; you will not be able to watch Blu-Ray movies on your TV (the DRM built into the laptop will prevent it). So are you sure you really want to go through with this?.

Would you turn that thing down? I'm controlling a mind here! Look ... look at the tiny ad ...
