Unfortunately, that is still a bit too broad to come up with a good answer without writing a whole book. Well almost a book. ;)
For instance, what do you mean by 3rd party? Outside game engines? Big Application Frameworks (Framework itself has many definitions). Performance is mostly based on how you develop the application. Meaning if machine language is the fastest, I can still write code that slows it down to be slower than the slowest language.
I would also assume that anything native would run faster than say a web application on the devices browser.
When it comes down to popularity, just look at which devices have the bigger markets. iPhone and Android are the top two, then Symbian then Windows Mobile.
