question: why EventDispatcherThread doesn't stop?

the followind Swing application stops well and terminates JVM, whet close button on window tool bar pressed.

BUT! if change line
to line

JVM doesn't stop. after close button pressed window dissapears and demon "LabelChangerThread" thread continues working.
the question is why ?
according http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.5.0/docs/api/java/awt/doc-files/AWTThreadIssues.html
There are no AWT events in java EventQueues. during 500ms
