As I've stated in other posts, my advice is not to define your dataSource in Struts, but rather to do the way your Application server's documentation tells you to do it.

The Struts datasource tries to be a universal datasource configurator that will work on all platforms, but in my experience there are just too many quirks with different App Servers. It's just easier to do it at the App server level.

If you have a high tolerance for frustration and you'd still like to try it, you can get some examples by Googling "Struts Data Source".
