Hi everyone,

I had web service development experience in coldfusion,
I want to develop web services in java with the help of eclipse.
What are basic environments(Like server[Tomcat,Jboss, weblogic etc], additional jars ) required to develop and publish?
What kind of web service development is best(Like REST etc)?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

Personally, I would recommend GlassFish application server for both SOAP and RESTful web services. It comes complete, with everything you need.
It is also possible to deploy SOAP and RESTful web service to Tomcat using the Metro and the Jersey web service stacks respectively.
If you want to develop a small RESTful web service, Restlet is also a good alternative.
In addition, there is Apache CXF, which can do both SOAP and REST web services in one and the same stack.

There is no simple answer to this, it depends on what you want to do. I suggest you learn a little about both SOAP and REST web services and then you will be able to decide for yourself.
Best wishes!
