For beginner below mentioned books are really useful:

1)Oreilly's Learning PHP, MySQL and JavaScript by Robin Nixon.

2)PHP The complete reference by Steven Holzner.

Useful sites are:

hello Blue
1.build your own database-driven website using PHP & MYSQL by Kevin Yank is a good book for beginners. You just go through this book step by step and i think you can automatically learn yourself.good luck.

Thanks for recommending my book, Learning PHP, MySQL & JavaScript, Aniket.

You may be interested to know that the 2nd edition is to be published in about 4 months - it will also include info on using CSS with PHP & JavaScript.
