I am looking forward to learn Flex for a new project. Can anyone help me with the links to start the basics? Any name of books will also be helpful. Also, please recommend something that is either opensource or free to use as I on a student budget.

Thanks a lot.

I'm currently reading Flex3 in Action, and I am finding it a good, easy to understand book. Yes, it is not the latest, but I have my reasons for reading it.

I tried reading Flex on Java, and while it made sense on paper, I was not able to get the example code to work - after a few chapters we gave up on it.

The Adobe Flex Developer Center has lots of free tutorials.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. I am just about to start things with Flex and haven't got Flex 3 in Action yet. So for now what I understand is that I will be needing Flex SDK, and an editor.

Do you know of any open source IDE for Flex?

Otherwise I may have to purchase Flex Builder, which is expensive for me right now.

Also, the book is on the way as I have ordered it. But please forgive me if my questions are too naive.

Do I need to download/purchase any other application/package/middleware?

Regards,
Sunil
