AccessDeniedExceptionHandler handle method never called

Hi All,
Every time a user does not have the correct access permission to any of the methods a org.springframework.security.access.AccessDeniedException is thrown.
I have written a customised AccessDeniedExceptionHandler to capture this exception, but the handle method is never called.
