Hey Everybody! I'm very new to java and have been trying to teach myself for a few weeks now. I am really wanting to do it as a hobby and it's very interesting to me. I was looking for any advice anyone might be able to give. Like, maybe what i should start reading or what to learn first? I eventually want to make a game for android. Is there maybe a smaller goal i can work towards or will this be the first step after I learn my way around?
Thank you for the warm welcome and the link. I bought the head first java second edition a couple of weeks ago and have been reading that. I have been trying to compile most of the exercises and had some trouble with the directories in the command prompt, but google was there to rescue me
Beware book examples: you will often find the downloaded examples differ from the printed examples because they have package names. If you are in the first few chapters, comment out the package names like this . . . . . . and put all your classes in the unnamed package. Once you are more experienced in coding, you can put the package names back. Compiling code in packages is more complicated than using the unnamed package, and you don’t want things complicated at this stage.
