How to add aditional features in VLC or Windows Media Player

I am Pankaj Singh have done B.Tech with Information Technology Branch.
Sir I have been given a project by my company in which i have to add some additional extra features in VLC or Windows Media Player.Can You please suggest me what can be those additional features and how I can implement them.

That's a question you should ask the people who gave you that task. If you don't know what you're supposed to be doing, how can we? I seem to recall that VLC has extensions that enhance its functionality; might be worth googling.
