Just downloaded and installed NetBeans IDE 7.1.1 for the first time and am looking forward to trying it out.
Until now I have been typing out source files using a regular text editor and compiling using the command line.
I want to get the content of my source files into a NetBeans project and use the IDE to work on it, but I don't know how.
The most straightforward way would be to start a new NetBeans project and then open the source files and copy the text from the source files into the IDE. But I'm pretty sure there is a better, faster way.
PLEASE tell me there is a faster way!! Otherwise I will die of old age before I finish.

One way:

Create a project in NetBeans of the type that you want.

Using an OS tool (e.g. Explorer on Windows), copy your sources into the project's directory structure. NetBeans will automatically include the files in your project.

Another way:
Use the various import functions available. Under File | New Project, select the various Categories and you will see Projects that let you import existign stuff. For example, under Java there is Project With Existing Sources/
