I saw that this morning and just based upon the awesomeness of that ad, I signed up to check it out.

As you might imagine, with a whole head to shave, having a regular supply of inexpensive blades would be awesome. I'm hoping the blades live up to the hype.

He's right!

First razors just had one blade. Then somebody invented a razor with two blades. So the competition made one with three blades. And then four blades. After that, fancy nonsense with vibrating blades, now you even have to put a battery in your manual shaver! I'm sure those blades cost a few cents to make but you easily pay 15 euros for a packet.

Yeah, I wouldn't know anything about that, I don't shave so much as make a weekly pass with a pair of tweezers; I just thought the commercial was awesome!

Hmmm... I wonder if the economics make sense. I had to upgrade to one of those lots-of-blades vibrating razor because they didn't have any blades for my previous non-vibrating one. I have to say that it does give me a less irritating shave vibrating than not. I also haven't changed the blade since ... Hmmm .... I think Thanksgiving. Much better than twin blade disposables I've used while traveling, which go dull in less than a week.

It is about time to change the blade. It's starting to snag & pluck now

That is the world famous Gillette business model, which is taught in every MBA school on the planet. Sell the razor at a lose, and make it up with huge markup on the blades. Gillette has been doing this since the late 1800s.

This company claims they will cut their costs by reducing/eliminating marketing. Relying instead on social media.

I'm not convinced, there are a lot of consumer products (razors, soap, deodorant, etc.) that are sold only after huge amounts of advertising.

Don’t printers work the same way. We had one Canon printer once which packed in, and it cost about £1 more to buy a new printer than four cartridges.

The last razors I bought were £0.70 a packet of five. Flat steel things, sharp on both sides, with “Wilkinson Sword” printed on.

Yes, exact same business model.

On printers, beware of "starter cartridges". The purchase price includes cartridges, but they only have a tiny amount of ink/toner in them.

And once they "upgrade" the men's razor, they change the color on the old model to pink and sell them as women's razors.
