I've broken 15,000 only twice. (But I have played enough to start getting some repeats.)

I only posted about my good scores, not my bad ones! I had rounds where I got only 2 out of 5 on the right continent. (Japanese temple and gardens in Portland, Oregon, I'm looking at you. Who knew desert Australia and South Africa look so similar, if you've never been to either.) But then I've been terribly lucky too: amid a birch forest in Finland I find a road sign pointing to a town I've heard of, or I get an airport in Maun, Botswana and find it on the map right away.

12027 on my third round. But it seems to depend a bit on how long you're willing to spend scanning around for more clues. Cool idea though.

I got 20579 points, but oly because three of the five locations contained signposts that I could google. Probably counts as cheating, though I'm still proud I was able to transliterate azbuka to google it.

I got a car in one location and I tried to zoom in to see the plate, no luck though.

Because the data is owned by Google (Maps) and they blur out the number plates and faces because of privacy.

19291 with no Googling. Though I should have gotten th eone near Sacramento, given I'd seen a sign referencing sacdot.com. (I didn't type in the link either; I just failed to guess what it was.)

I'm up to a top score of 21,600 with no Googling. 3 of the 5 places had signage good enough that I could get within a couple kilometers.

Wow, I'm terrible. http://goo.gl/pvmtL
None were in the right country, and most were in the wrong continent.

As Michael noted earlier, we're just posting our high scores. Eight thousand is not bad, and getting the continent right is harder than we expect. If you spend enough time navigating around in each location, you can find more clues. Sometimes you just have to follow a road far enough to find a sufficiently informative sign.

10292. I'm ashamed at how badly I missed C. Pretty interesting game though.

Of course, XKCD is watching us: http://xkcd.com/1214/

I've read some time ago about replicas of the entire cities being built in China... Imagine what would happen to the scores if China admitted Google Street View to its cities....

Me and Google just got 20655. I suspect without Google's help it would have been nearer 2655.

My favorite part is in the mouseover: "I'm rapidly becoming a connoisseur of unmarked dirt roads over flat, barren landscapes." Yeah, those are fun.

Do you think the game would be more or less fun if it simply used random locations rather than these seemingly cherry-picked ones?

Oh, and my high score, with no googling, was 9000-something.
