this sounds like a real question, but it is meaningless drivel in a way since i don't really need it.
it quit working a while back. when you open a .txt file it is all 000's same thing if you try to type something. all 000's
does anyone know how to fix this? or more likely, where to download a copy(for Windows XP)?

I guess your question is a real question, and not just an invitation for anti-Notepad rants, so I've moved it out of the Meaningless Drivel forum.

Is it because you setup a bad font? Go to Format > Font and make sure you are on something with a Western script.

I'm fairly certain this one has been covered before, but I can't resist. Personally, I despise emacs but that's largely because of the horrible experience I had with it on a Coursera course. If I can't have an IDE, then I want Notepad++.

Notepad++ is a decent editor, though.

I second the Notepad++ recommendation, notepad itself has way to many deficiencies the major ones being inability to load large files (Notepad++ is happy to load very large log files) and being unable to handle Unix-formatted text files.
