Hi Mary - Good question. I think the biggest downfall of the Oreilly/Free online book is it was built from FAQs of some of the early adopters of Subversion. The book tends to answer some of the common questions and no more. This is great if one of the things you are looking for is in there, but it's a guessing game. Also, the bulk of the book is a command line reference and instructions on programming Subversion. Subversion in Action is built around the software development life-cycle and shows how to use this as tool. People use version control to help with development (code/documents/etc), not just for the sake of using it. The other books tend to look at version control as a stand alone tool, which I think does an injustice to it
