Hi,

I used a simple spring application to login the page. Below is the service class which authenticates the username and password from DB.

Controller class: LoginCont.java

Service Class: AuthenticateService.java

I am received with an NullPointerException at the below line of the code.

List<userDetails> userObjs = hibernateTemplate.find("from user_data where user_id=? and password=?",userName,password);

I queried the DB which contains the requested username and password also. But still it throws NullPointerException.

Please help me to resolve it.

Thanks in advance

Regards
Ramki S

If it's actually that line of code which threw the exception, then that means that the "hibernateTemplate" variable is null. Which in turn means that you didn't call the "setSessionFactory" method to assign it a value.

However it might be some code called from that line, but it's impossible to guess that without seeing the stack trace.

Hi Paul,

You are absolutely correct.

Okay. So like I said, you didn't call the "setSessionFactory" method. I don't know whether you have to call it or whether you have to configure the framework to call it, but you need to do one of those two things.

Thanks Paul for the reply.

I am new to this Spring and Hibernate working together. As you told i don't know how to inject SessionFactory bean to HibernateTemplate and then the HibernateTemplate Bean to the service class as it is throwing null for HibernateTemplate object also. Can you please help me in doing this.

Moreover i am using Spring 3.0.5 version with Hibernate 3.6.4 version. Do they both work. That is is there any version compatibility issue when using spring 3.0.5 with Hibernate 3.6.4. If so which versions of the both can i use.

please advise

Thanks.
