Checked the standard ones on http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/painting/ but looking for something more in the area like "Painting for Dummies" :-D

It can either be a book or a tutorial onLine.

Any recommendations?

If you do advance search on google by selecting the *.edu, and do a refine through the link you may find what you are looking for;
type this into google search

java 2D tutorial site:edu


Some time the best tutorials are found at university
