On Ivan's notes, p.127, it says "JAX-WS maps the parameters of the method calls to XML using JAXB and inserts them into the SOAP message."

When doc/lit/wrapped is used, the response and request wrapper bean classes (JAXBElements) are generated by wsimport, for example Add.class and AddResponse.class. The parameters for the add(int num1, int num2) method are mapped to Add bean and the Add bean object is marshaled into XML before it is put into the SOAP body.

However, with doc/lit/unwrapped and rpc/lit, those response and request wrapper bean classes are not generated, how can the parameters be mapped to those bean (JAXBElements) before they are marshaled?
