Thanks for the suggestion, we hope you find the book useful in the meantime!
Later this summer we'll start updating HF Java. If we ever get around to updating the Servlets book, it won't be for a long time.

Thanks Bert. I am so happy to hear from you. If you update the servlets book, then please consider mentioning how much
JSP and Servlets is
needed to learn frameworks like spring. I feel that HF JSP has the potential to become a flawless to-go book for JSP for beginners if it can add
a big real world project. It would be nice to have the user requirements in English...converted to UML diagrams and finally translated into code
(with all the filters,
patterns, DAOs etc). With such a book, there will be no need to refer to other books or even websites.
I am making a lame shopping cart app (using jsp, servlet, hibernate, sql server) now and I am facing so many questions in each step. I know that
I can proceed without addressing my questions and finish my basic app within a 4-5 days. But, I am won't be surprised if it will be poor design and
full of basic security mistakes. I believe that that this could be avoided if we I had some guidance from a book by great authors like you.
Thanks for listening. I like you very much. You are a nice.
