Hi,

I created a project with spring + Hibernate.
And here is my bean.xml (of spring)

And when I try to get the bean second time in a row, it gives me the following exception.....

org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'usrMgmtServiceImpl' defined in class path resource [bean.xml]: Cannot resolve reference to bean 'privService' while setting bean property 'privService'; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'privService' defined in class path resource [bean.xml]: Cannot resolve reference to bean 'privDao' while setting bean property 'privDao'; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'privDao' defined in class path resource [bean.xml]: Cannot resolve reference to bean 'template' while setting bean property 'template'; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'template' defined in class path resource [bean.xml]: Cannot resolve reference to bean 'mysessionFactory' while setting bean property 'sessionFactory'; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'mysessionFactory' defined in class path resource [bean.xml]: Invocation of init method failed; nested exception is org.hibernate.cache.CacheException: Attempt to restart an already started EhCacheProvider. The key point here to observe is that this happens only when I enable second level cache of hibernate. For second level cache disabled, everything works fine.

Also if i disable second level cache, then also things are fine.

If I close the sessionFactory, then also things are fine.

But My question is that as spring gives a singleton class, What is the problem if I again call context.getBean without closing sessionFactory....
If somebody can help me clearing up this concept of mine, will be really helpful.

The problem is you are reinitializing the application context. If you just want the bean again, you should retrieve it from the application context.

If you do want to reinitialize the app context, you should close the previous one before you open a new one

What you said is perfectly right. Thanks, the problem is with intiliazation of application context and not context.getBean....

And is there any guideline from hibernate, that one must close the previous sessionFactory before initializing a new one........ I had never read about that..

Well I wrote a junit test suite as follows...

And tried that the context is intialized only once.........but all in vain...

But all of the methods of RoleSvcTest, that gets called after UserSvcTest, fails....And every method is not able to intialize the context and gives BeanCreationException, as quoted in my first post....

Any further suggestions, how best this can be achieved to make my junits run...

Solution that worked :

Changed the cache provider in bean.xml to net.sf.ehcache.hibernate.SingletonEhCacheProvider

And it made it work without closing the session factory.

And the jar file in which this class was found is ehcache-1.2.4.jar

The reason why moving the initialization code to the constructor didn;t work because JUnit creates an object of your test calss for every test it runs. So, the Constructor runs on every test, and creates the cache on every test. Again, since, you are not explicitly closing the application context, the cache created from the previous test is still holding on to the file. The reason SIngletonEhCache made the problem go away is because the SIngletonEHCache creates one cache for the JVM, or in other words, a singletioon. Every time you are loading an application context, it uses the same cache as the previous application context, and skips reinitialization of the cache

You shouldn't reload application context on every test. You can use @BeforeClass annotation to run initialization that runs only once. This annotation has to be on a static method, and since a static method can only access static members, you will have to declare the applicationContext as static OR you can use Spring Junit 4 Class Runner to load the application context. WHen you use SpringJUnit4ClassRunner, you can directly wire the service bean into your unit test, and the runner takes care of loading spring for you
