hello All,

I am new to Hadoop and want to get the basic understanding of hadoop architecture.

Does each datanode in cluster runs HDFS and JVM and DataNode and TaskTracker daemon?
When we write command to list the hadoop files using "hadoop fs -ls /" from where does this command pick the info regarding the Dir listing, is it the metadata stored on the namenode or does it contact datanode as well?

Regards,
Vivek

The subject you chose leads to some very topical pages when dropped into Google: Understanding hadoop architecture. Maybe start by reading through a few of those.
