Hello, Jeanne and Scott,

Congratulate you've done very good job and finally published the book! I saw a set of demo pages on Amazon, the book looks very interesting.

Please could you tell what the most significantly different topics in OCA Java8 in comparation to OCA Java7? Regarding to your book, what knowledge areas would you like to emphasize for people who are going to challenge OCA Java8 after Java7 I/II is done?

Sorry for curiosity, there is another thing I would like to clarify in terms of key OCA Java8 topics. I suspect you've already taken the OCA Java8 exam - what were the most challenging questions/areas from your perspective? Also, in order to target our motivation, please could share how many points have you achieved?

Thank you!

Hi Nikolay,

First of all, a warm welcome to CodeRanch!

The major new topics are wrapper classes, lambdas/predicates and Java 8 date/time classes. Here you'll find a mapping between the exam objectives of OCA 7 and OCA 8.

If you are OCPJP7 certified (if you pass both parts of the certification), you can take the OCP 8 upgrade exam. This exam is recently released in a beta version. You can find more info in this topic. If you don't want to take the upgrade exam, you'll have to focus of course on the new Java 8 language features (like lmabdas/predicates, date/time classes, nashorn,...).

Have a look at Jeanne’s oca/ocajp 8 java programmer I experiences.

Hope it helps!

Typo? Nashorn isn't on the OCA. It is on the upgrade exam.

True! I should have made a distinction between the new Java 8 features for OCA8 (like lambdas/predicates & date/time classes) and those which will probably be on the OCP8 exam (like Nashorn).

For my next feat, I will require a volunteer from the audience! Perhaps this tiny ad?
