Dear Sir,

Does your book contain an introduction to GIS ?

Do I need to know GIS before reading your book ?

Thanks.

Until the authors can respond to your question, you might like to check out the following threads relating to a previous edition of this book.

  • This thread tells you a bit about GIS and spatial data.
  • This thread has a bit more about spatial databases.

  • There's also a Gentle Introduction To GIS on the QGIS website. QGIS is a powerful open source GIS desktop tool (based on Eclipse) that works well with PostGIS/PostgreSQL.
